My Vinyl Collection 111
In early April 1960, at 13, with money made selling subscriptions to my weekly paper in Enumclaw, Wash., I bought my first Long Playing vinyl record, The Fleetwoods’ Mr. Blue.
In late August 2022, I began publishing on Substack. By mid-September, say, Sept. 21, I knew what I was doing. A year ago. So, it’s Happy Anniversary to me!
From the chatter on the mail, over the phone, here in town, I know these little writing exercises of mine are going over pretty well. Enough to keep the list going for at least another year . . . and beyond.
So, thank you, readers! You are doing a good job out there. Don’t hesitate to share.
And don’t wait any longer to get that paid subscription. $60 a year or $5 a month.
That gives you access to all the back articles listed below. There’s information galore in the 1,000-word articles I send out Wednesdays and Saturdays.
I currently have readers in 15 states (WA, MO, NY, RI, DE, TX, CA, LA, CT, AZ, OR, NV, FL, CO, NJ) and six foreign countries (GB, CA, CH, HK, PT, AI). Getting in touch with old friends and colleagues has been a surprise reward from the Substack experience.
This particular retired journalist (Seattle Sun, NY Post, UPI, Reuters,) has heard a lot of music in this life. As author of “That St. Louis Thing” I’ve been doing a lot of music writing since retiring.
I’m including the list so far of the LPs I’ve collected since I bought that first record in 1963 and written about in this space over the past year.

As a new member and reader I am a 68 year old album junkie. With most of my collection of around 250, dating from the 1960s-1990s, I recently started recording them to CDs. All but maybe 5 of them are in excellent condition as we always took great care when playing them. After not listening to them for several years I am having a nostalgic time getting them all transferred. I am going to be selling the collection when task is completed only because of space constraints and would like advice on the best way to sell a collection like this. Until then, I'll keep spinning and remembering my younger days through my collection. Thanks for your insights into our music past.
